An HVAC Technician, or a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technician, installs and repairs various air quality systems. Their main duties include locating and diagnosing maintenance problems on equipment, conducting warranty services and quickly performing emergency repairs on certain equipment items.Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians install, maintain and repair indoor air quality systems, such as air conditioners. This may include performing warranty services and emergency repairs. This may also include assisting with customers’ queries.A Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician is a professional who installs and repairs various home heating and cooling systems year-round. HVAC Technicians work with furnaces as well as thermostats and air conditioning systems to ensure everything runs smoothly throughout a customer’s home or office building.Air conditioning (AC) technicians work with cooling systems to ensure proper installation, maintenance and repair. Becoming an AC technician usually involves completing a heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration degree program and/or an apprenticeship.
HVAC Technician Responsibilities:
Installing, maintaining and repairing ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
Identifying maintenance risks on equipment.
Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
Cleaning, adjusting and repairing systems, and performing warranty services.
Performing emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
Providing technical direction and on-the-job training.
Keeping daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
Ensuring compliance with appliance standards and with Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Complying with service standards, work instructions and customers’ requirements.
Assisting with customers’ queries.
HVAC Technician Requirements:
High school diploma, GED or suitable equivalent.
1+ year experience as an HVAC technician, and willingness to continue education in HVAC field.
Valid driver’s license.
Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating.
Working knowledge of boiler systems.
Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in reading schematics and work plans.
Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
